Level 4 (OCR) Health and Safety NVQ

Work Safe
The Health and Safety NVQ is designed to reflect the work of candidates with health and
safety responsibilities. It recognises the candidates competence in the area of Health and Safety practice to national standards. The NVQ units consist mainly of the Health and Safety standards developed from the Employment NTO, the government approved standard setting body for the health and safety sector at the time the NVQ was designed.



Course Content

To complete the course 10 mandatory units must be completed. However, additional units do exist. Please see below for a list of mandatory units:

HSP2 - Promote a positive health and safety culture
HSP3 - Develop and implement the health and safety policy.
HSP4 - Develop and implement effective communication systems for health and safety information.
HSP5 - Develop and maintain individual and organisational competence in health and safety matters.
HSP6 - Identify, assess and control health and safety risks
HSP7 - Develop and implement proactive monitoring systems for health and safety.
HSP8 - Develop and implement reactive monitoring systems for health and safety.
HSP10 - Develop and implement health and safety emergency response systems and procedures.
HSP11 - Develop and implement health and safety review systems.
HSP13 - Influence and keep pace with improvements in health and safety practice.



Entry Requirements

Although there are no entry requirements, candidates must be in a position to collect evidence for the NVQ and have sufficient communication and number skills.



Structure

The course will be delivered by an induction half-day workshop and regular workplace-based assessment visits and guidance. There is an opportunity to attend supplementary workshops if required.



Assessment

The qualification is assessed on a competent or not yet competent basis.

There are no examinations. All candidates will have support from a trained assessor, who will provide advice on the collection of suitable information (portfolio of evidence) to demonstrate, that the work performance meets the requirements of the NVQ.



Duration

The NVQ can take between 9-18 months to complete. The average completion time is 12 months.
