This Level 4 NVQ (accredited by ILM) is designed to provide individuals with the environmental knowledge and skills necessary to improve the environmental performance of their organisation.
The course also provides a basis for the implementation and maintenance (or continual improvement) of an Environmental Management System (EMS).
This could be to a recognised standard such as ISO14001, EMAS or BS8555.
Why Enrol on this Environmental Management NVQ Level 4?
- The individual will gain a nationally recognised qualification (approximately equivalent to degree level).
- The candidate’s organisation will have the opportunity to improve its environmental performance.
- The NVQ can be used as a foundation to build an environmental management system. If desired you can work towards certification to a recognised standard such as ISO14001, BS8555 or EMAS or continually improve an existing system.
- Candidates who achieve the NVQ have the option of a fast track route to membership of IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment).
Mandatory Units
Unit 1 - Develop your own resources.
Unit 2 - Evaluate environmental performance and recommend improvements.
Unit 3 - Gain support and commitment for improving environmental performance.
Unit 4 - Plan and implement activities to improve environmental performance.
Unit 5 - Contribute to improving environmental performance during work activities.
Unit 6 - Plan, monitor and support auditing of environmental performance.
The Student must also select
either of the following units:
Unit 7 - Develop and maintain an environmental policy.
Unit 8 - Evaluate and make recommendations concerning an environmental policy.
Optional Units
There are also 16 additional optional units of which you must select two. Optional units include:
Unit 13 - Facilitate meetings.
Unit 23 - Audit environmental performance.
Unit 24 - Report environmental performance to interested parties.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements but candidates must be in a position (employed or voluntary) to collect evidence of environmental management activities in line with the requirements of the NVQ Level 4.
Course Structure
The course will be delivered by an induction half-day and up to 10 regular assessment visits at your workplace.
The NVQ typically takes between 9 and 18 months to complete. We would recommend that you aim to complete in 12 months.
Assessment
The qualification is assessed on a "competent" or "not yet competent" basis. There are no examinations. All candidates will have support from a trained assessor who will provide advice on the collection of suitable information (a portfolio of evidence) to demonstrate that the work performance meets the requirements of the NVQ.
