Internal EMS Auditor Course

Environmental audits can be undertaken for a variety of reasons, they can be designed to review environmental performance to ensure compliance with legislation, or that an Environmental Management System (EMS) is working effectively. They can be used to review the performance of a supplier or contractor or can be specific to a particular subject (e.g. waste, water or energy) to identify potential cost saving opportunities. All audits should identify opportunities for continual improvement of environmental performance.

  • The benefits of an EMS
  • An overview of ISO 14001, EMAS and BS 8555

Key elements of an Environmental Management System (EMS) including:
  • Environmental Policy
  • Environmental aspects and impacts
  • Register of environmental legislation
  • Objectives and targets
  • Procedures and documentation
Different audit types including:
  • EMS system audits
  • Audits of environmental aspects (e.g. waste, energy, water)
  • Compliance audits
  • Auditing of suppliers and contractors
  • Certification and verification audits
The audit process including:
  • The role of the auditor
  • Audit preparation and planning
  • Audit tools and techniques
  • Conducting the audit
  • Raising non conformities and corrective and preventive action
  • Audit reporting and follow up action
  • Practical audit exercise


Entry Requirements

There are no entry requirements for this course.

Delegates are not expected to possess a detailed level of knowledge of EMS and auditing.

One and a half days, however this course can be tailored to fit the needs of your organisation.
