Introduction to how CEEQUAL provides a Framework to Strive for, and Publically Acknowledge, Sustainability in Civil Engineering Projects
Civil engineering projects are often in a unique position to contribute to sustainability objectives at a local, regional, national and even international level. CEEQUAL (The Civil Engineering Environmental Quality Assessment and Awards Scheme) provides a framework for those involved in the design, construction and operation of a development to integrate environmental, social and sustainability benefits into their projects – and a way to measure and publicise their successes.
The use of CEEQUAL (which is supported by the Institute of Civil Engineering – ICE) provides an opportunity for developers to be publically acknowledged for their commitments to being ‘green’. CEEQUAL encompasses a wide range of sustainability indicators against which a project is scored, including: project management; land use; ecology and biodiversity; the historic environment; water resources and the water environment; energy and carbon; material use; waste management; transport, effects on neighbours; and relations with the local community and other stakeholders. Because CEEQUAL encourages actions to gain public support for projects, minimise material use and maximise efficiency in use, it provides an opportunity for development cost savings, as well as sustainability gains.
One of the keystone aspects of CEEQUAL is project management. It is critical that sustainability measures are incorporated into management strategies, such as the training of personnel and the involvement of designers and contractors who have strong sustainability based environmental policies.
The aim of the course is to provide learners with an introduction to CEEQUAL and provide an insight into the practical application of the processes required to gain certification. Learners will be given the opportunity to explore various sustainable opportunities, which score well under CEEQUAL. The learners will also have an opportunity to learn how their sites can achieve the highest CEEQUAL rating possible.
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course.
Duration
One half day. This course can be tailored for your organisation and provided as in-house awareness training or candidates can attend an open course where they can learn from and share experiences with candidates from other organisations.
Who Should Attend?
The course has been designed to be applicable to candidates working at any level, within the planning and civil engineering industry. All who wish to be publically rewarded for their contribution to sustainability should attend.
Structure
The course will be delivered by a mixture of tutor presentations, group exercises and discussions. During the course all candidates will have an opportunity to compile a mini portfolio of information which will be generated during the course. This will act as course reference material.
Outcomes
- The objectives of the programme are that, following satisfactory completion of the training and assessment the candidate will be able to:
- Understand the Concept of Sustainability;
- Understand the CEEQUAL processes required in order to gain an award;
- List the requirements of CEEQUAL in order of Environmental Weighting;
- Appreciate the evidence requirements in order to score under CEEQUAL.
Price: £150.00 + VAT (per candidate)
